Further Update on Surrey Hills National Landscape (AONB) Boundary Variation

Below is a copy of an email from Natural England about the imminent public consultation being launched on the 17th September 2024. Lasting for 12 weeks. It contains links to 3 webinars that anyone can sign up for and contact detals if you want any further information.

Dear Stakeholder,

Surrey Hills National Landscape (AONB) Boundary Variation Project

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming statutory and public consultation and to invite you (and, where applicable, the members of the organisation that you represent) to one of three online webinars that we will be holding, where you can find out more about the consultation and how to respond.

As you may already be aware, Natural England is proposing to extend the existing boundary of the Surrey Hills National Landscape (AONB). Last year we held a public and statutory consultation on our proposals and earlier this year in July 2024, we published our Consultation Analysis Report which sets out the findings of the consultation and our proposed changes to the extension areas. The 2023 consultation responses also included requests to consider land within East Hampshire, which we have now evaluated and published via a report and map booklet, alongside the consultation analysis report here: Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Boundary Variation Project – Defra – Citizen Space

Since the 2023 consultation has presented the opportunity to include additional land we will be undertaking a second round of consultation. This consultation will be launched on Tuesday 17th September 2024 and will last for 12 weeks, ending on the 10th December 2024. This will be a statutory and public consultation and will have a new website page which we will share with you once the consultation is launched.

The consultation will be widely publicised and we will be holding events for the general public during the consultation period, to enable people to discuss these new proposals with members of the Natural England team. These events will be advertised on our consultation platform at the time of the launch. In addition, we would like to invite you to one of our webinar events, led by our consultants Resources for Change, where we will provide you with information on the project so far and how you can participate in this second round of consultation.
